A Taste of Charities Week

Posted: 3rd February 2016

Some events so far…

It is only the Wednesday of Charities Week, but it has been a packed three days.  The own clothes days have been very popular: on Monday members of St George’s House travelled the school dressed as superheroes.  There were several Wonder Women, the Flash was observed and Super Women and Cat Women were also in evidence.  Tuesday saw a whole menagerie around the school, as members of St Raphael’s House came to school dressed as animals.  Today it was St Gabriel’s turn, whose dress theme was Blue – not only were blue clothes visible but also blue faces and blue hair.

Assassins, the game popular among Seniors and Staff, is in full swing and at least one member of staff is refusing to leave her office at lunchtime in case someone targets her!

On Tuesday the Preps and Juniors held their biscuit decorating session and some wonderful mouth-watering designs were created (see separate article on Upper I’s creations).

At lunchtime on Tuesday the astroturf hosted the Staff vs. Sixth Form Dodgeball Match.  Although fun, this is always played very competitively!  There were lots of spectators as the two sides lined up and battled it out.  No quarter was given and the staff emerged triumphant (but only by a very close margin).

Today the Eco Fashion Show took place in the Hall.  Led by Upper V, classes from Upper II to Lower V had 15 minutes to create a costume and dress their Form Teacher in an outfit made entirely of recyclable materials.  Teachers then paraded along the catwalk to the sound of applause and a winner among the models was chosen.  Congratulations to Mrs Tippen (Deputy Head, Juniors, and Form Teacher, Upper IIA) who gracefully modelled a delightful creation to rival the Houses of Dior and Chanel.

We hope you enjoy the pictures accompanying this article which give a flavour of the week so far!  All the money raised is going to extremely worthwhile causes:  The Mayhew Animal Hospital, Marie Curie Cancer Care, the Rainbow Trust (which provides emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness) and Refugee Action, helping refugees to build new lives.
