Chiswick Book Festival Young People’s Poetry Competition

St Augustine’s Priory pupils have achieved success in the Chiswick Book Festival Young People’s Poetry Competition 2017, learning a great deal on their poetic journey.  Teacher, Ms Sharon Barrett reports that, ‘girls in Upper II and Form III entered the competition and worked very hard on their poems.  They were very excited to enter the competition and learn that it takes time to write a poem and a lot of drafts and editing have to be done before the final poem is ready!’

In Form III Millie Vadon won first prize for ‘I saw a Dancing Bear’, Lucy Williams was awarded second prize for ‘Seesaw’ and Lily Rai was awarded joint third prize with ‘The Stray’.   Lillian Rodney was awarded a commendation for her poem ‘Eye of the Storm’.  In addition, two girls in Upper II received commendations:  for ‘Life as an 11 year old girl’ by Ava Bileckyj and for ‘Space’ by Aamina Hussain.

The Chiswick Book Festival will run from 14th – 18th September 2017.  As a local festival, this is a wonderful opportunity to hear some great speakers, meet your favourite authors and enjoy the talks on offer.   Speakers in 2017 will include Clare Balding, Jeremy Vine, David Baddiel, Oz Clarke, Hunter Davies, Anne Sebba and Elizabeth Buchan – and many others.

There will be a short prize-giving for all winning poets at the Chiswick Book Festival during the weekend of 16th/17th September at St Michael and All Angels Church, Chiswick, W4.

Many congratulations to all our Upper II and Form III award winners on their wonderful achievement and to all our writers who entered the Chiswick Book Festival Young People’s Poetry Competition 2017.
