Priory 6 visits Parliament

Government and Politics comes alive

London is a wonderful city in which to study Government and Politics for A Level.  The opportunities for field visits are boundless and here Portia Laryea-Adu, Lower VI, describes her recent visit to the House of Commons:

‘On 10th October, the Priory 6 Government and Politics A Level students travelled to the House of Commons to undertake a tour. The tour was very educational as we were able to see visual representations of topics we are studying.  For example, lobbying is a form of advocacy with the intention of influencing decisions made by the Government and we were able to see members of the public lobbying in the House of Commons.

One of the highlights of the day was to see one of the most well-known British business magnates, Lord Alan Sugar, walking into the House of Lords. Another was meeting Rupa Huq, the MP for Ealing Central and Acton. She was able to tell us about the cuts that are being made to the NHS and how she questioned Prime Minister Theresa May on why she, amongst her whole cabinet, went to Florence to make a speech about leaving the EU, in terms of unnecessary economic cost.

The whole day was very enjoyable and a big thank you goes to Mr Ferguson who accompanied us on this visit!’
