Enrichment Week

Upper V to experience a week of activities

Starting on Friday 19th June Upper V began a week of inspirational activities with a visit to an Open Day at the University of Reading.  Now that their GCSEs are over the students have the opportunity to enjoy some extra activities which will provide them with insights and also some extremely useful skills which will be of benefit for years to come.

On Monday 22nd June they are welcomed into the Sixth Form Common room (with refreshments!) and will not only take a First Aid course run by the organisation ‘Saving Londoners Lives’ but will hear a talk on Great Ormond Street Hospital by one of our past pupils and a recent graduate, Charlotte Bones.  During the day they will also work on the construction of the new mosaic in the Prayer Garden.  The Prayer Garden will be blessed by Cardinal Vincent Nichols on his visit to us on 30th June and we are so pleased that this garden, a centre of our prayer life, is being renovated and transformed.

Over Tuesday and Wednesday the students will divide into two groups and take part in a session entitled ‘How Money Works’ with Mrs Macallister – an essential for this day and age, who will also conduct a session on ‘A Student’s Survival Guide’, which should not be missed.

4

Mr Murphy will be guiding the students through an indispensable session on politics and another past pupil, Terme Tabatabai, will be leading a session on work experience, focussing on her experience of working with clients who are facing the death penalty.   Our current Upper VI student, Kiranjeet Sandhu, a talented photographer who has recently filmed for the Ministry of Defence (see Priory Post of 12th June), will be running a course on photography for the students.

Thursday 25th June sees the end of Enrichment Week with the current Upper V’s induction into the Sixth Form and their Prefect roles and the opportunity to meet their A Level subject teachers.

6

This will be a valuable week for all the girls involved, combining practical advice, useful tips and a wider understanding of the wider society into which they will soon emerge.
