Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award

We are thrilled to let you know that one of our Sixth Formers, Ridhi Thukral, who earlier this year won the national T.S. Eliot Prize Shadowing Competition has been named as one of the 85 Commended poets in this year’s Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award competition out of an astonishing  total of 7,630 entries. The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is a huge national event and the standard of entries is always remarkable.

Ridhi achieved her commendation with the poem ‘The Patron Saint of GCSEs’ written as a direct response to the Tom Warner workshops and which appears in Poems from the Priory 2014 (a few copies of which are still available and may be purchased from Mr Elder at a cost of £4.00).

The Tom Warner workshops, organised by Mr Elder, have proved to be an excellent addition to creative life at St Augustine’s Priory and for one of our outstanding poets to have been awarded a Commendation in the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is a phenomenal achievement.

For her prize, Ridhi has been awarded Youth Membership of the Poetry Society for one year and has been invited to a prize giving ceremony on National Poetry Day, 2nd October, at the Royal Festival Hall.

We would like to congratulate Ridhi and all our other exceptional entrants to this competition; poetry goes from strength to strength at St Augustine’s – well done!
