London Life
London is a capital city with a lot to offer. Last year many Sixth Formers and Upper V students made excellent use of all that is on offer in London to broaden their learning. Mr P Murphy, Director of Sixth Form (UCAS), tells us about some of the resources that are available and gives us a few examples of links to have a look at.
LSE Public Lectures:

University College London Lectures:
UCL have daily lunch time lectures – they run from 1.15-1.45pm. These will be difficult to get to but they can be watched live online during your lunch break or later on catch up. Upcoming lectures this term include: Does the UK parliament matter?; How to read paintings; The science of fireworks; Truth and illusion in philosophy and theatre; Understanding other people’s actions; Distracted, confused and unaware: the elusive gift of attention; supernovae and serendipity.

RS students, and others, may be interested in the series of lectures at St Martin-in-the-Fields Church in Trafalgar Square. In the year that our nation remembers the centenary of the outbreak of World War One, what are we really remembering?
The lecture series reflects on what we have learnt from war and how those who believe in a God of Justice and Love can respond. The series kicks off with: Can there ever be a ‘just war’? – Monday 22nd September at 7.00pm

University online courses:
Last year some of our girls took free online short courses run by universities. These usually involve 1 or 2 hours of study per week.
The Sixth Form should sign up for a course starting this week – Developing Your Research Project. This is an 8 week course run by Southampton University and is intended for anyone who is currently undertaking or planning to undertake a piece of academic research, be that the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or a piece of coursework.
