Primary Mathematics Challenge 2019

Posted: 6th December 2019

Girls across Upper II and Lower II took part in the Primary Mathematics Challenge 2019. The girls did brilliantly with 6 of the girls, 4 of them from Lower II, gaining scores of 19 and above, out of 25; a significant achievement. Rin, from Lower IIA, had the highest score overall, with a magnificent 22 marks.

Six girls were awarded Gold Certificates; Rin, Alani, Anna, Sunny, Hijiri and Vanessa.

Eight girls were awarded Silver Certificates; Poppy, Pola, Clara, Arianna, Claudia, Mylla, Sachika and Freya.

Five girls were awarded Bronze Certificates; Amber, Natasha, Amba, Sarah and Maria.

The Primary Maths Challenge, which is run by the Mathematical Association, is aimed at pupils in years 5 and 6 across the UK. It is designed to make children think outside the box, so includes subjects not necessarily covered in the curriculum. The questions are not heavily reliant on formal mathematical knowledge, but can be solved by logical reasoning. Once all the submitted scores across the UK are analysed, some of the girls may be invited to participate in a Bonus Round for high scoring pupils in February 2020.

The Mathematical Association are inviting all children with 21 marks or higher to the Bonus Round. Two of our pupils qualify for this which is a fantastic achievement! The girls are: Rin in Lower II A and Alani in Upper II A.

Huge congratulations to all the girls who participated. Each and every girl embraced the challenge, despite it being tough – it really made them think! It is wonderful to see such a buzz of excitement created by Mathematics!
