Looking forward to Book Week

Literary News.

With an eye on our soon-to-begin journey into our Book Week next week, and the visits of authors Sylvia Bishop and Sita Brahmachari, we thought you would be interested in reading the following review of Mr Elder’s recent publication. ‘Like This’.  Mr Elder, who is Head of our English Department, has published several works of poetry and this review is by Sue Kindon, poet and author of ‘She who pays the piper’ and ‘Outside The Box’.  The review is published in The High Window, a quarterly review of poetry. Ms Kindon writes that throughout ‘Like This’, Mr Elder ‘strikes an accessible, conversational tone, and there are no awkward line breaks lying in wait to ambush the pleasure of reading aloud. Free verse at its best, and an existential world view in a digestible form.’  To read the Ms Kindon’s review, please go to:

Mr Elder has also been interviewed by Clifford Rames, the host of Poetry Passages, who asks Mr Elder about the process of writing and we also hear him read aloud from ‘Like This’.  To view the interview, please go to:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nylf_dqM5sM where Mr Elder talks about the writing of ‘Like This’, and the way that writing a poem, ‘is like getting food stuck between your teeth’!
