Little Princess Trust

“I’ll grow it back anyway!”

These unassuming words of Aneae Rodriguez, Upper VI, represent so effortlessly the outlook that girls at St Augustine’s Priory develop as they grow; selfless, down to earth girls with their feet so firmly on the ground when it comes to considering others.  “My motivation to cut my hair was somewhat unglamorous I’m afraid.  I’ve been getting tired of my long hair and had planned to cut it anyway” Aneae recalled, “So I thought I should donate it to a good cause. Some other child – suffering from cancer, undergoing chemotherapy – will be able to enjoy it, and I’ll grow it back anyway.  The minimum length for a donation is seven inches and so I aim to double this”.

Aneae’s donation

Aneae had her hair cut over half term and donated her lopped locks to the Little Princess Trust.  The charity provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.  “As a result of treatment for cancer, most children will suffer hair loss as a side effect.  Some boys and girls cope remarkably well but for others this can be very upsetting”, Little Princess Trust.  Despite being set up to help children with cancer, the Trust also supplies wigs to children with other conditions which also result in hair loss, such as alopecia.

We would also like to take this opportunity to mention Christina Miller in Prep III and Billie Morrison, Head Girl last academic year, who also donated their hair to charitable causes.  We are truly proud of all these girls and their donations are valued by those who need their generous gift.
