Musical Endeavours

A virtual achievement.

Learning a musical instrument is a thoroughly rewarding endeavour, but is it something that can be pursued in the current climate, where learning online may sound a challenge too far?  Let Naomi, one of our Upper VI students, dispel any doubts you may have!  Her achievement this year is a testament to what can be achieved.

‘Learning to play an instrument is one of the best things I have ever done. It is an incredible skill to have and the experiences that come with it have been amazing. I have been learning the flute since Prep III with Mr Judson at St Augustine’s Priory and I have come out of the process not only with the ability to play the flute at Grade 8 level, but with years of playing in orchestra and flute ensembles where I have made new friends and built my confidence, due to the many concerts I have now participated in.

If anyone reading this is thinking of starting an instrument, I would 100% recommend it. You will get so much out of it, especially learning at school where you can take part in all of the musical groups that come with it. And the earlier you start to learn the better – don’t let learning online put you off!

I can promise you from experience that there is no difference between learning in person and learning online. I have been surprised at how seamless it has been to learn over Teams, and it has been good enough to enable me to take my Grade 8 this term. All of the teachers at school are amazing; experienced and supportive, and now is such a good time to start learning when we are at home and have the time to practise.’

Strengthening Our Community: The Return of Boys to our Preps and Pre-Preps

We are excited to share that, from September 2026, boys will begin moving up from our Nursery into Reception, marking the gradual reintroduction of boys into our Prep and Pre-Prep School.

This step reflects growing interest from families who value our strong holistic ethos and unique grounds and setting and would like their sons and daughters to share their educational journey together.

At St Augustine’s, our strong sense of community, academic excellence, and deep care for each individual child remain at the heart of everything we do. This is a natural evolution of our school rather than a change to who we are, building on our strengths and allowing us to offer the same joyful, inspiring education to even more children.
